The Makana Traffic Department will be holding its second Driver of the Year competition for truck and bus drivers.

The competition will take place at the parking area behind Market Square Shoprite on 11 June and the traffic department is calling on businesses to enter.

The competition will be made up of three categories: ridget, bus and 3.5 tonners.

The aim of the competition is to sharpen the skills of bus and truck drivers, as the rates of truck and bus accidents in South Africa are high.

Sizwe Mapuma from the traffic department said it is hoped that business owners who enter the competition will hold in-house competitions in the future. The competition will be run on a points system and there are a number of spot prizes and floating trophies up for grabs in the various categories.

The competition will be made up of two tests, a track test and a road test. The track test will include test such as how much distance a driver should give to a cyclist, and also to estimate the height/width of the truck/bus. The road test will be based on the K53 test. For more information or to book your truck/bus driver in the competition contact Sizwe on 083 581 1172.
