It's only three weeks before the local government elections and a poster war has begun at Ward 8, with the Makana Independent News Deal (Mind) accusing the ANC of playing dirty tricks by interfering with the posters.

Mind's interim leader, Jock McConnachie, said he put posters on street poles in Albert Road, Fingo Village on Saturday morning, but was surprised when he came back on Wednesday to see his posters being tampered with.

“The ANC wrap up my posters with their posters, some were pulled down, and some were even removed,” said McConnachie. He said the ANC wants to be dominant, and he has already opened a case with the Grahamstown police.

Grahamstown police Communications Officer, Mthuthuzeli Mathyumza confirmed that the police have received the complaint. “An enquiry has been opened, and there will be an investigation,” said Mathyumza.

Meanwhile, ANC's Ward 8 candidate, Ben Dlukulu denied the allegations and said the posters may have been removed by the rain and wind. “We know it's against the law to interfere with posters of other political parties,” said Dlukulu.

“We simply put our posters back to back with the Mind's posters, we never removed any posters. His (McConnachie) concern is that our posters are big Mind is contesting in the coming elections as a grouping of independent candidates.
