Jackie Griffin-Jones, a Grahamstown artist, opened her collection to the public on Tuesday with an exhibition of new and old paintings at Harcourts Real Estate, in New Street.

Griffin-Jones's work has been widely exhibited in South Africa and is represented throughout well-known South African galleries and collections. Most of the works on display are landscapes that captivate the essence of the Eastern Cape. There are also still-lifes and portraits.

Former art teacher, Rene' Sehalker, who attended the opening, said, "One relates to her Eastern Cape paintings very easily. They smell and taste like the Eastern Cape. It's restful and I would love them on my wall."

One buyer at the event, Tibby Bennett, chose a painting representing an area in the Karoo. "I'm a Karoo girl," she said. "The painting spoke to me. It has an atmosphere of homeliness and loneliness," said Bennett.

This is a permanent exhibition which members of the public can view during business hours.
