The Proteas cricket squad is scheduled to arrive in Grahamstown today as part of a countrywide tour to apologise to their supporters for their dismal performance at this year's Cricket World Cup in India.

The Proteas cricket squad is scheduled to arrive in Grahamstown today as part of a countrywide tour to apologise to their supporters for their dismal performance at this year's Cricket World Cup in India.

The side will be without their captain, Graeme Smith, who is currently in Ireland with his girlfriend and Eurovision backing singer, Morgan Deane. He opted not to face the music about his side's quarter-final upset against New Zealand last week and instead flew off with Deane.

However, Port Elizabeth's Johan Botha will lead the rest of the team on their countrywide tour. The teams are scheduled to be in Port Elizabeth this morning and, en route to East London, will stop off at Church Square in Grahamstown at around 11.55am this morning.

Proteas spokesperson, Muncwane April, called on the nation to support “the boys” during this difficult time in their careers.

Makana Municipality has arranged a banquet lunch, with sushi, for the Proteas while they are in Grahamstown and, according to its organiser, Sizwe Jokeonu, no expense will be spared, as Makana councillors and invited guests show their support for the Proteas.
