Makana Independent New Deal (Mind) is officially contesting the coming local government elections in Makana and has announced its candidates for the elections.

A grouping of independent candidates, Mind is registered to contest not only 13 of Makana's 14 wards but has also fielded three candidates on the PR list. "We are therefore competing on an equal footing with the big players, the ANC, the DA and Cope," said Jock McConnachie, a member of the party's interim executive. "It’s a David versus Goliath scenario, and our slingshot is fully loaded."

McConnachie said they were the only alternative to what he described as the "failed party-based system of which the Big 3 are part". "If elected, we will dramatically change how our municipality functions," he promised.

The party's official lists are as follows: Ward List Ward 1 Aldy Meyer, Ward 2 Sigidla Ndumo, Ward 3 Chesley Daniels, Ward 4 Leon Trompetter, Ward 5 Chris Bower, Ward 6 Devon Waldick, Ward 8 Jock McConnachie, Ward 9 Vuyo Jilana, Ward 10 Xolani Ngqoyiya, Ward 11 Bongisizwe Kulati, Ward 12 Christolene Brooks, Ward 13 Lulama Ncula and Ward14 Leon Kruger PR List Unathi Lugongolo Gibson Nombewu Francois Human
