Thanks to Grahamstown generosity, hundreds of smiling, excited faces arrived at the Rhodes Theatre last week in anticipation of a family theatre experience provided by Ubom! Eastern Cape Drama Company.

Ubom!, a project of the Rhodes Drama Department, expressed their appreciation this week for the generosity shown by Rhodes University and St Andrew’s Preparatory in helping make their new show “The Land of the Cranes” available to a wider audience.

Dr Mabizela of Rhodes University generously granted Ubom! financial help to transport children from the furthest township schools to the Rhodes Theatre.

In addition, boys from St Andrew’s Preparatory kind-heartedly paid double tickets in order to sponsor learners from the Amasango School to join in the fun.

For Ubom!, growing future audiences with an appreciation of the arts, and especially theatre, is an extremely important endeavour. They hope to contribute to a creatively understanding future generation of South Africans.
