It was warfare between Extension 9 and Tantyi when Cameroon took on Newtown City in the finals of the Makana Local Football Association pre-season friendly at JD Dlepu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

An unfortunate attack by the Newtown boys in the opening minutes was ruled offside, but minutes later, after a brilliant move from the back, penetrating Cameroon’s midfield, the ball fell for Newtown’s forwards, who chipped the ball over the Cameroon’s goalie, netting the opener.

Good passes from Newtown saw them taking a place in their opposition’s half in the early stages. Deep into the first half, however, Cameroon posed several threats, looking for an equaliser

. On the half-hour mark, Cameroon’s wishes were realised when they took advantage of a corner kick whipped into the box to make it 1-1. A minute later, a shot at goal by Newtown almost tricked the Cameroon goalie, as the ball bounced in front of him – only to hit his forehead and bounce back to Newtown.

They wasted no time in crossing it back into the box, to be headed in by the Tantyi boys. This was not amusing to the trailing Cameroon side, who headed in an equalising goal from a corner set-piece, making it 2-2. The Extension 9 Cameroonians caught the Newtown defence off guard, resulting in a third goal and giving them a 3-1 lead at the break.

In the first minute of the second half, through some good passes, Cameroon broke through their opponents’ defence, netting the score and stretching the lead to 4-2. Newtown had a number of chances to score in the second half, but were unable to finish off. It was victory to the Extension 9 side, as the game ended 4-2 to Cameroon.
