Kingswood College has two new members of staff in their Sports Department. Pieter Serfontein started as the new Head of College Sport this week, and Jeanette Makkie as the College Sports Administrator.

Serfontein moves to Grahamstown from Reddam House, in Cape Town, where he has been the Sports Administrator for the past four years. He brings with him a wealth of sports, coaching and administrative experience – his specialisation being rugby and waterpolo.

Serfontein has coached premier league club rugby, studied at the International Rugby Academy of New Zealand and has a wide range of coaching and refereeing qualifications.

He has coached waterpolo at provincial and junior national level, having studied at the British Waterpolo Academy. Serfontein is no stranger to Grahamstown: He studied at Rhodes University, where he played first-team rugby and waterpolo.

Jeanette Makkie moves to Kingswood after 10 years at Collegiate Girls High School in Port Elizabeth. She brings to her job extensive experience as a hockey coach, selector and manager. In 2008 Makkie coached the SA U21 Girls Hockey team that qualified in Egypt for the Junior World Cup in Boston.

Last year, Makkie was Head Coach to the EP U18A Girls hockey team. Originally from Durban, Jeanette said she was ready for the new challenges Grahamstown had to offer.
