St Andrew's College was well represented in the Border side at the SA Schools Water Polo Tournament in Durban during the December holidays, with 32 pupils in various teams.

St Andrew's College was well represented in the Border side at the SA Schools Water Polo Tournament in Durban during the December holidays, with 32 pupils in various teams.

The boys representing the U14A, U15A and U16A teams gained valuable experience against the top players in the country in their age groups. The Border U19B team, which included six St Andrew's pupils, won the U19B division and was unbeaten in the tournament.

The U19A team of 13 players included 11 St Andrew's representatives, and they eventually lost in the semi-finals of the tournament by a single goal to the host province, KwaZulu-Natal. After the tournament, four St Andrew's boys, Peter Cornish, Choc Malan, Angus Macdonald and Lachlan Macdonald, were selected for the South African U19 team.

Cornish and Malan were part of the South African side that took part in the Tri-Nations tournament in New Zealand against Australia and New Zealand. On that occasion, the SA team recorded three wins against Australia, and one win and two draws against New Zealand, to remain unbeaten and win the Tri-Nations tournament.

“The prominence of College players in SA Schools water polo was an indication of the memorable year that St Andrew's polo enjoyed in 2010, and a challenge that the water polo club will be keen to emulate in 2011,” said Graham Creese, St Andrew's water polo coach.
