The UJ women's side alone boasts three Banyana Banyana players, including the captain. The University Sport South Africa Football National Club Championships kicked off at Rhodes on Monday, with the final matches today.

After the tournament, a team will be selected to represent USSA. Both the Rhodes men's and women's sides came up against some stiff opposition, including teams which went through to yesterday's semi-finals. The Rhodes teams both played in the losers' matches on Wednesday afternoon and yesterday, with their final matches today, as they play for position.

In yesterday's match, the Rhodes women's team came up against TUT Emalahleni. TUT were up 2-0 at half time. Rhodes came out the more upbeat team as they finally found the net through Babalwa Magoqwana. The next few minutes saw Rhodes firing on all cylinders as they searched for the equaliser. With about a minute left of play, Rhodes found the net through Zandile Mavuso as the match ended in a draw.

It was straight on to penalties, and the two sides were on 3-3, before the Rhodes keeper made the first save. TUT keeper followed with a save of her own, and so it was up to the last kicker in each side. TUT got the goal, while the Rhodes keeper took her side's last kick, which was saved by her opposite number as TUT celebrated the win.
