Local traffic official Pierre Kapp has launched his second CD, Lang-Arm Kitaar Treffers, marketed and distributed by EMI record company.

Kapp, the well-known Senior Superintendent of the Makana Traffic Department, was born in Port Elizabeth to a musical family and started playing the guitar when he was 10 years old. His first audiences were the other children at Sunday school, and then the congregation at the Full Gospel Church in Port Elizabeth.

So it was no surprise that his first musical ventures were based on the choruses and hymns of his childhood. But Knapp soon moved on to include langarm and sakkie sakkie music in his repertoire and it was at a family celebration, joined by other musicians, where he was inspired to take his musical hobby seriously.

Since then, Kapp has performed at numerous venues around the Eastern Cape, including Alexandria, East London, Port Elizabeth, Thornhill and Grahamstown and three years ago he took his guitar playing to the next level, launching his first CD, Gunstelling Kitaar Treffers.

The latest CD features rearrangements of both langarm and sakkie sakkie standards, as well as some well known English and boeremusiek tracks, including Tennessee Waltz, Release Me, Maggie, Mielie-Land Kwela and Jampot Polka.

“There's something for everyone, from vastraps to waltzes,” said Kapp, who has also included two of his own compositions. The album, completed earlier this year, was recorded locally by Corinne Cooper, of Sonic Art Studio.

Local musicians Elija and Sebastian, of Rhodes, as well as Marianne Kapp, feature. The CD is available through EMI , as well as all Musica and Look and Listen outlets nationwide. You can also buy the CD from Pierre on 083 708 2949.
