The annual Shaw/Brown 20/20 cricket festival took place at Kingswood College over the past weekend.
The festival is held to honour now-retired Kingswood cricket stalwarts Peter Brown and Bob Shaw, who contributed immensely to schoolboy cricket in Grahamstown.
Kingswood, Graeme College and Woodridge College participate in the festival, with St Andrew’s being involved only it its first year.
After a full day’s competitive cricket on Saturday, Kingswood walked away with the Shaw/Brown trophy after defeating both Woodridge and Graeme.
There were a number of good performances during the day but ultimately the idea of this festival is for the players from all three schools to enjoy the finale to a very busy cricketing year.
Bob Shaw and Peter Brown were on hand to present the trophy to Kingwood captain Neil Hornbuckle at the end of the day’s proceedings.
The Wyvern Cricket Club paid tribute to Ian Suttie, cricket coach extraordinaire from Graeme College, who will be retiring from the game after more than thirty years service to schools cricket.
In recognition of his contribution to cricket the Shaw/Brown competition will have, from 2011, the Ian Suttie Trophy for the most accomplished cricketer of the competition.
This will serve as a fitting tribute to the three “Old Bulls” (Bob Shaw, Ian Suttie and Peter Brown) who have collectively served schoolboy cricket in Grahamstown for just over 100 years.
