City Pirates’ football club may have lost to Grocott's Mail Eleven Attackers in a league match on Saturday, but Pirates are still ahead on the log.

The two teams battled it out in what must be the derby match of the year, as Grahamstown's top two soccer team's fought it out in the South African Football Association Cacadu league match. This is the first time City Pirates have been part of the Cacadu league and, while going into the game as log leaders, they were positive of an easy victory.

One may feel City Pirates went into the match slightly over confident, as they went on to lose 3-0 to the more experienced Cacadu side. Asanda Dyaloyi opened the scoring for Eleven Attackers as he slotted one past the goalkeeper about 30 minutes into the first half. Attackers came back firing even stronger in the second half as they added another two goals to beat their Cacadu counterparts 3-0.

Siya Dumiso scored the Attackers second goal, with the third being scored by Siviwe Mandevu. Attackers' secretary, Xolani Ngcikhwe said he was happy with the team’s performance, especially in the first half, where they were able to score while against the wind. Ngcikhwe said the coaching staff worked on mistakes from previous games which were implemented and worked well on Saturday.

City Pirates secretary, Thanduxolo Plaatjies said, “Defensively we were caught on counter attacks,” adding that the City Pirates defence was sloppy at times. Plaatjies admitted that the side was confident going into the game which he feels may have let them down. “But we will bounce back,” said Plaatjies.
