The office of the Mayor has been invited by the Taipei Country Government to the International Summit on Climate Change and Low Carbon Metropolises Conference in Taiwan.

Due to a lack of funding, council did not approve this item at a recent special council meeting. According to the report for this item, the co-organiser of the conference has confirmed the offer of sponsored return flight tickets and accommodation for both the Executive Mayor, Vumile Lwana, and the Municipal Manger, Ntombi Baart to attend the Summit.

This was briefly discussed at the special council meeting where Baart said they made enquiries regarding this offer and found out that the municipality would have to make a payment first which would be reimbursed at a later date.

As Council would not be able to make this outlay, it decided not to approve the trip. The invitation stated that the conference will be held from the 4 to 11 November in cooperation with the French Institute of International relations and will hold a range of discussions with experts and academics on the subject of climate change.
