A municipal delegation will be flying to Raseborg, Finland on 10-14 November, at the expense of the Raseborg municipality. The trip was approved at last week's Special Council meeting.

"You will recall that we hosted the delegation from Raseborg and it was an eye opener. They had an interest in women and youth, education and the health system," said Municipal Manager, Ntombi Baart as she addressed the council.

A report to the council listed other possible areas of mutual cooperation such as tourism, arts and culture and environmental management. "It was resolved that there is no funding for this trip so there was an offer to sponsor a delegation," Baart said.

The report indicated that the project administrator of Raseborg, Börje Mattsson has confirmed an offer to sponsor return flight tickets and accommodation for the municipal delegation. The intention of the trip is to conclude the Friendship-Cooperation Agreement on focus areas which were identified during the visit of the Raseborg delegation.

According to the report, the municipal delegation will probably consist of three people: Makana Executive Mayor, Vumile Lwana; chairperson of the Social Services Portfolio Committee, Julia Wells and the Director of the Local Economic Development department, Riana Meiring.

"A comprehensive report on the Friendship-Cooperation Agreement will be provided after the return trip has been undertaken," the report read. Council approved the recommendations for a municipal delegation to undertake the trip and gave the delegation a mandate to sign the Friendship Cooperation Agreement with the town of Raseborg.
