Christmas is a time of giving. In this spirit, the Rotary Club of Grahamstown Sunset is once again running its annual Tree of Joy project at the entrance to Pepper Grove Pick n Pay.

Every year since 2008 you may have noticed a Christmas tree festooned with bright red cards containing wish lists collected from children, senior citizens and physically disabled citizens in the community. You would have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by some of the items requested: baby lotion, a warm vest or t-shirt, takkies, toiletries and many inexpensive items that most people just take for granted.

Last year, as a result of the Grahamstown public’s generosity, the club collected about 250 gifts. These were distributed to individuals through a variety of organisations such as the Assumption Nutrition Clinic, Brookshaw Home, Gadra, Kuyasa Special School and St Mary’s Day Care Centre.

You can bring joy into the life of someone less fortunate than yourself by collecting a card from the Tree of Joy, buying and wrapping the present requested and dropping it off at the Tree of Joy, Albany Sports or Wallace’s Pharamacy.

You will find the Tree of Joy outside Pick n Pay between Monday 25 October and Saturday 6 November. The Rotary Club of Grahamstown Sunset will ensure that your special gift is delivered to the right person in time to brighten up their Christmas.
