Cunning robbers break into business

In Hlalani on Wednesday morning, a businessman heard noises coming from his back wall, where unbeknownst to him, three men were digging a hole to gain access to his hoiuse, which is next door to his shop.

The suspects then broke through the wall into the front, broke down the security gate and gained entry into the shop. They were armed with a knife, a hammer and a firearm. They took an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime, TV, decoder and groceries worth R12 300. The businessman was not injured and the suspects are still at large.

Attempted rape In Hlalani on Sunday evening a girl was sent by her older brother to buy fish at a house nearby. She was then approached by an armed unknown man who asked her if she knew the weapon he was carrying.

The suspect then dragged the girl into a nearby bush and tried to rape her. The girl screamed and the suspect fired a shot into the air. The girl's brother heard the screams and the shots and rescued his sister. The suspect then fled. A case of attempted rape has been opened.

Murder case

A dead body was found in Victoria Road on Monday morning. The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, was found lying in a pool of his own blood with an open wound in his forehead. The motive for the murder is not yet known and a case of murder has been opened.

Kidnapping case

Between 6 and 7 October, a 64-year-old woman was kidnapped in Nonzube Street. The details are not clear at present but it is known that the woman was at home when she was coerced into following the kidnapper to her house.

The kidnapper demanded money from her and told her that she will not be allowed to leave the house without handing over the money. When the woman said she didn't have any, the kidnapper locked her in a room. The next morning the woman was forced to go to the Department of Home Affairs, where a new ID document was processed.

From there the woman was sent to her bank to open a new bank account, where she was forced to make a withdrawal. An undisclosed sum of money was withdrawn and the kidnapper was given R300. The woman was then left at a friend's house, from where the matter was reported. No arrests have been made and a case of kidnapping has been opened.
