A Silver Grey Ford Laser was severely damaged after colliding with a silver Toyota Tazz at the corner of Beaufort and Hill Street.

The accident took place at just after 8pm on Thursday night when the Ford Laser crossed against a red traffic light and hit the Toyota Tazz on the left headlight.

The Ford Laser then  carreened across the street, collided into a balcony and flipped over. The owner of the house that was hit, Petro Horner, looked out the window after she heard a bang and discovered that her balcony had been damaged in the collision.

"The whole house was shaking," added Terry Horner, Petro's husband. He claimed that by the time they went outside there were already about 10 or 15 people watching.

"I'm glad that the man is alive," said Petro. A neighbour, Jackie Brits went outside with her 11-year-old son after they heard the noise of the collision.

They witnessed the car flipping over after it hit the balcony. "It happened so fast and there was dust all over," said Brits.

It is alleged that the driver of the Ford Laser, who was injured on the head after the accident, was driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was rushed to Settlers Hospital for treatment immediately after the accident occurred. According to Colonel Willem Du Plooy, the driver of the Ford Laser was detained and was charged with reckless and negligent driving. He appeared in court yesterday.
