The Makana Amateur Boxing Organisation (Makabo) visited Port Alfred on Saturday where a group of local junior boxers took part in the Cacadu district trials.

Since other Cacadu municipalities could not afford transport to the occasion, Makana boxers had Ndlambe opponents to face and ten local boxers claimed victory and were selected to the Cacadu boxing team,which is currently taking part in the Eastern Cape Amateur Boxing Organisation (Ecabo) provincial trials in Port St Johns.
The Makana boxers selected for the Cacadu boxing team were: 1. Sinesipho Gule (antweight), 2. Asanda Vayo (mosquitoweight), 3. Lindokuhle Mnyamana (mosquitoweight), 4. Phumlani Maloni (gnatweight), 5. Sithembiso Magwashu (spiderweight), 6. Sinawo Mhase (flyweight), 7. Siphozethu Zingeli (bantamweight), 8. Luvuyo Hlasela (featherweight), 9. Anesipho Klaas (middleweight), 10. Ayanda Loteni (extra-heavyweight).
An executive structure that represents the district boxers was also elected and Makabo president and coach Bulelani Ndwayana was appointed as the team manager, while public relations officer, Sakhiwo Duruwe will be the referee and judge.
After the Ecabo trials, selected boxers will join the Ecabo squad to compete with other provincial boxing organisations in the national games.
“It shows that we are in the spirit and I can see a lot of hope, the boys look promising and I hope they bring something back,” said the coach.
“We are still disappointed by the department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC), who have been neglecting us in all our developments. Whenever the boys have to travel, there's no transport and the boys don’t look representable to other teams. “This also occurred when Makabo senior boxers had to travel to Mdantsane to represent Cacadu in the provincial boxing trials in June.”
According to Duruwe chief sports organiser at DSRAC, Msondezi Maswana sponsored local boxing with equipment worth R20 000 for the Makabo boxers which they haven’t received yet.
“We only get assistance from Ecabo when we have to travel and if Maswana can’t do what he is supposed to then another person should take his place,” said Ndwayana.
Meanwhile DSRAC officials are taking part in the national public servants strike, so Maswana is currently unavailable for comment.
