NMMU kept their hands on the Inter-Varsity trophy for the fourth year in a row by scoring 423 points to Rhodes’ 369½, Fort Hare’s 227 and Walter Sisulu’s 208½. Rhodes last won the trophy in 2006.

The rugby final between NMMU and Rhodes turned out to be a thriller, with NMMU leading comfortably at halftime with 29–15. But a fantastic second half display saw Rhodes leading NMMU 32–29 going into the final minute.
With a defeat staring them in the face, the Madibaz pulled out the stops to score a converted try and penalty and run out winners by 39–32. An excellent game of student rugby was enjoyed by all.
The soccer final between Fort Hare and NMMU was no different with the teams unable to score after fulltime. NMMU prevailed 4–1 on penalties in the ensuing shootout. On Friday night, NMMU men’s and women’s secured wins over their Rhodes counterparts.
Rhodes however turned the tables on NMMU in the men’s and women’s rowing. Rhodes also walked away with the volleyball men’s and women’s and the basketball women’s titles.
