One month after Mandela Day, learners at Samuel Ntsiko Primary School are still helping others. Last week they visited Makanaskop Residential Facility, an old age home in Extension 4, bearing gifts of tinned food.

Visibly moved, resident Rose Hesi (100) said: “I have no parents, that is why I am crying, and I appreciate what you have done for us.”

Nombulelo Koliti, principal of the school, could not hold back the tears. “Even if the Mandela Day has passed helping others and devoting your time to those that are in need should be done daily,” she said.

She said she hopes that other schools could also be involved in helping the  communities in need. As the learners and the teachers were preparing to leave the old age home, the residents complained that it was still too early for them to leave.

The principal promised to come back and visit them again, which they were happy to hear and waved their goodbyes cheerfully.
