Most people who live in Grahamstown East have washed their hands of the desperate water situation.
One angry resident, Nomaxabiso Nkohla says, “As Fingo residents we have done everything in our power, but
the municipality or whoever is responsible for this has destroyed our lives.”

Mongameli Matshoba from Vukani said “Talking to the media doesn’t help, members of the community have been doing this for as long as I can remember, the more we are asked about this the more frustrated we get.”

In Joza some learners say that they had to go home in between classes to go to the toilet and drink some water as there has been no water at their schools.

A learner from Joza, who does not want to be named, said “I am not the only one, at school I have to excuse myself to go home early so I can find the nearest place to pick up water. I am doing this so that I can clean the house and be able to go back to school on time for the next morning.”

Ngobulali Sikhomo, an Extension 5 resident says “We are being ignored and marginalised because we don’t pay high rates but we are also human at the end of the day.”

According to an informed source, fixing the problem is going to be a very long process because the municipality is waiting for materials to replace permanent water connections.
