In a fast and free flowing game, hosts Kingswood College 1st XI played against their archrivals, St Andrews College on the City Lords Astroturf. Both teams played some good hockey, although neither team was able to gain the advantage over their opponents.

Kingswood was the first to get on the scoreboard with a charge down the left wing in the fifth minute. The ball came into the shooting circle, where link Eric Dillenberger flicked the ball into the back of the St Andrew’s net. This sent the crowd into a wild frenzy.

St Andrew’s, seemingly spurred on by falling behind, levelled matters five minutes later through a superb
individual run by James Briscoe.

After receiving an aerial pass, Briscoe dribbled down the right wing, then cut along the base line and then slotted the ball into the back of the Kingswood goal.

Counter attack and defence seemed to be the name of the game, as neither team truly dominated the remainder of the match.

However, both teams caused a number of problems for the opposition defence with a series of runs of exciting passages of play.

But the defences stood firm and managed to hold out against a few spirited attacks. The teams went into halftime with the score at 1-1.

Umpires Adrian Ryan and Neil Leachman managed to control the heated match. Both teams seemed to let the occasion get the better of them, with a number of cards been given in the second half.

The game ended on a knife’s edge as Kingswood was awarded a short corner on full time. St Andrew’s managed to defend their goalmouth successfully and the game ended 1-1.

Earlier in the afternoon, a brilliant performance by Kingswood 2nd XI team keeper, Jason Slizuik, ensured that Kingswood drew 1-1 against St Andrews 2nd XI.
