The artistic students are busy designing dresses and accessories from used paper, plastic and other ‘garbage’ we usually throw away after use.

Sarhanna Hassim, one of the organisers, said: “We decided to do an environmental fashion show and quiz to highlight the responsibility we have towards the upkeep of our environment in a fun way. We want to show that so many of the items we throw away are actually recyclable and that they can be put to further use.”

The initiative is aimed at enlightening the audience about the importance of recycling and how we can keep our environment healthy.

Organisers are also looking to assist Ethembeni Service Centre in providing great services and care to the aged.
“We will be collecting proceeds for Ethembeni Old Age Centre in the form of non perishable food products and the money we raise from ticket sales will be used to buy food products as well,” said Hassim.

They are also calling upon members of community to donate non-perishable food products to assist Ethembeni Old Age Service Centre.

The event will take place on Saturday 14 August in the Great Hall at Rhodes University. The doors will open at 6.30 for 7pm.

Tickets cost R5 and can be bought from the Rhodes Day Kaif or at the door on the night of the event. If you bring a nonperishable food product, as a donation, you get in for free.
