The Department of Education, lead by deputy chief education specialist Nolubabalo Mgedezi, did their 67 minutes for Madiba on Tuesday by handing out food parcels and clothes to the parents of the children who attend Amasango Career School.

The visitors were welcomed by the school’s marimba band, from where the principal made a speech and introduced the guests, who were also joined by members from the Department of Health.

Mgedezi then made a short speech where she asked the parents to limit wayward behaviour in front of their children and set an example for them, as their behaviour impacts on how they children behave and interact with society at large.

Then Pastor Daluxolo Njibana from Port Alfred took over and delivered an exciting sermon, which had the small but packed classroom entertained.

The pastor talked about working hard and triumphing through adversity. While the children listened intently, the  teachers handed out oranges to the parents.

After the sermon, Wandisa Mbemba gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the students and the vice chairperson of the school governing body Leon Ngeju gave thanks on behalf of the school.

Then the department officials handed out the gifts and parcels and said that more will come at a later date.

Mgedezi was happy with how the service proceeded and said that the department had plans to introduce more programmes like these to the school, but was worried about the lack of space at the school.

She suggested that the department arranges that the prefab classrooms formerly used at Good Shepherd School, be transported to Amasango to create more classroom space.
