Two local boxers, fighting under the Makana Boxing Amateur Organisation (MAKABO) were recently promoted to the professional boxing arena.

Mzoxolo Ndwayana and fellow boxer Mntwekhaya Makhomba took to Port Elizabeth on the weekend of 17 July, where the two faced Nelson Mandela Metro boxers in their first professional match.

Ndwayana, who excelled by reaching the quarter finals of the Cacadu Boxing Tournament held in Mdantsane recently, knocked-out his opponent in the first round of a junior middle weight bout.

Makhomba dominated his fight and was well ahead with points but received a powerful punch and was knocked out in the fourth round of a six-round strawweight bout.

Ndwayana managed to deny his opponents a victory as he has been selected to play again in Uitenhage soon. “Both fighters did amazingly well, they performed as expected and even though Makhomba lost, I am proud of the level of boxing from the Makana boxers,” says boxing coach and Cacadu boxing pro, Sakhiwo Duruwe.
