The annual Pick n Pay Knysna Forest Marathon and Half-Marathon took place in Knysna over the past weekend with a number of local runners making the trip.
The annual Pick n Pay Knysna Forest Marathon and Half-Marathon took place in Knysna over the past weekend with a number of local runners making the trip.
Both the 42km and 21km starting at the same point, in the forest with both races being fairly undulating. Martin Bekker of Albany Road Runners was the first local home in a time of three hours, 39 minutes five seconds.
He was followed by Julie Walker of Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club, who was the first Grahamstown woman to cross the finish line.
In the half-marathon, Rhodes University Athletics Club member, Michael Cannon, was first local in 1:18:52 and the first local woman was Bianca Grotepass who finished in 1:54:47.
Angie Marriner, running her first half marathon, finished in 2:45:39. Marriner, who said this week that she loved the race, entered the event to raise money for charity.
Marriner has raised over R39 000 so far for the Foundation Phase Literacy project that Gadra Education runs.
“When I challenged myself earlier this year to complete the Kynsna Forest 21km half marathon, I decided to use my personal challenge to support a far larger challenge facing those around me,” she said.
