Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture employees at the Cacadu District Office have embarked
on a protest, citing their disapproval with management.

According to employees, they are not happy with the conduct of the acting district manager and his deputy managers, saying that there are inconsistencies in decision making, lack of communication through the structures at the office, and that labour unions are not involved in the decision making of all processes within the district.

Their main grievance is that in terms of advertised posts, late submissions are receiving preference, short-listed for interviews and going through the interview process, and that posts are being given to recipients who do not meet the requirements of the advertised posts.

In a statement issued by the communications manager Manzandonga Vabaza, the head office at Bhisho is aware of the protest that is taking place at the Cacadu District Office as from Tuesday 6 July.

A meeting was called by the manager in the office to listen to their reasons for the protest. According to the statement, the main reason for the protest is that the workers are not satisfied with recent  appointments of certain officials.

The workers have submitted their grievances to the head office of the DSRAC and are still awaiting a response.

According to the statement, there are no disruptions of services, since the workers are engaging in a peaceful go-slow.

The picketing is done during lunchtime, and  management (managers and assistant managers) are taking care of the day-today running of the office.

A meeting between the Labour Component, the workers and the district management is scheduled to take place on 8 July, to look at how the protest can be resolved. Grocott’s Mail was not able to get the outcomes of the meeting at the time of going to print.
