“A on ce in a lifetime experience,” is what Harry Laing said about his trip to Rustenburg for the World Cup match between Mexico and Uruguay.

Laing is a sales consultant in the mens department of Woolworths Grahamstown and was lucky to be chosen to watch the game live at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Woolworths Grahamstown store manager, Elmarie Vos was very excited when she was asked to select one of their  employees from a customer service application to watch the game and Harry was the lucky one who was chosen.

The match took place on Tuesday 22 June, the same day Bafana Bafana played against France. Harry enjoyed every moment in Rustenburg, especially the fact that he was supporting the Mexicans and actually sitting with them at the stadium along with Uruguay and South African fans.

“The entire stadium was colourful and chilling with the Mexicans and taking pictures with them is a moment in my life that I’ll never forget” he said.

Harry was accompanied by a colleague from another Woolworths store and together they stayed in Selikwani Safari Lodge which is 30 minutes away from Rustenburg.

He said that the people at the stadium were friendly and happy to be there. It was also the first time that Harry has ever been on a plane and he was overwhelmed by the experience.

He said that being at the stadium with the crowd is not the same as watching it on television. “At least I can say I was there,” he said with a smile. With this opportunity being given to only a few people in Grahamstown, Harry said how grateful he is to have gone on this trip.

“I would like to say a big thank you to my store manager Elmarie Vos for giving me this opportunity and also to the Woolworths Director, Garry Poovan for giving me permission to go,” he said.
