The Eastern Province Country Districts (EP CD) side, which consists of six Grahamstown learners, won their second match of the tournament on Wednesday, after losing their opening match on Monday.

The EP CD boys were unable to fight off the Griffons attack as they went down 25-28 in the final game of the day on Monday.

Griffons ran in four tries which were scored by Buran Parks, Barend Wessels, Rewaan Rodgers and Pierre Botes. All four tries were converted by flyhalf Ryno Venter.

Jamion-Lewellyn Booysen, Charl Theron and Deswell van der Berg scored tries for the district. Flyhalf Ntsikelelo Mlamleli of St Andrew’s College kicked two conversions and two penalties.

EPCD recorded their first win at the 2010 Coca-Cola U18 Craven Week on Wednesday following their 27-18 victory over Namibia in Welkom. The tourists held a 7-0 halftime lead after centre Berto Miller scored the first of match half an hour into the game.

His five-pointer was converted by flyhalf Aurelfo Plato. Namibia’s points in the second half were scored by Plato who added a penalty kick before winger Malcolm Moore scored in the corner in the final minute of play.

EP Country Districts built momentum in the second half and were ultimately rewarded with three well worked tries.

Scrumhalf Ryan Dugmore, of St Andrew’s College, scored a brace while centre Bart van der Vyver and
winger Dylan Bond also added their names to the try-scoring sheet.

Fullback Carl Theron kicked two conversions while flyhalf Willem Venter added one conversion. The South African Rugby Union (SARU) will announce a 32-man U18 high performance squad at the conclusion of the 2010 Coca-Cola U18 Craven Week in Welkom that will compete in international friendlies against France, England and a Namibian invitational side.

The squad that will be selected from players who have excelled in the Coca-Cola Craven Week and the recently concluded U18 Academy Week will assemble in Cape Town on 12 July to prepare for the three  internationals which forms part of SARU’s elite player development programme.
