Two Rhodes University students will be off to Edinburgh, Scotland after being selected to represent South Africa at the World Duathlon champs in September.
Michael Cannon was selected in the 25 to 29 category, while Natalie Ross was selected as an U23 Elite, which is a category above her age group (20 to 24), which she competed in at the South African Duathlon Champs.

Mike Irwin, president of the Rhodes University Athletics Club said Ross’ was a “remarkable achievement considering this is her first year out of the juniors and she is still 19”.
Ross is the first Rhodes athlete to be selected for the U23 Elite team in Duathlon. Both Ross and Cannon took part in the SA Duathlon Champs which took place in Bloemfontein on 29 May.
Ross, representing EP at the SA champs, was placed fourth in her age group in 2:29:41 for the Olympic duathlon distance, which is a 10km run, 40km cycle and 5km run. Cannon, who represented Border, finished ninth in his category in a time of 2:19:10.
