AS part of the new National Arts Festival Arena programme, a remake of the 1996 production, Womb Tide will be performed.
The play was written by acclaimed Baxter Theatre Centre director, Lara Foot and developed in collaboration with Leila Henriques, Brian Webber and Joss Levine.
The new overhaul of the play is directed by Rob Murray with Tanya Surtees codirecting. In a recent press release, Murray expressed his excitement for the opening of the production.
“We are delighted to be presenting this new production of Womb Tide and are honoured to have such a stellar group of collaborators on board.”
The play will be re-created by the award-winning visual theatre company From The Hip: Khulumakahle (FTH:K). “I am delighted that FTH:K are going to be presenting their very own and innovative production of the play,” said Foot.
The company will be providing members Liezl de Kock and Emilie Starke for the stage in collaboration with Grahamstown’s own Daniel Buckland and Kim Kerfoot.
Womb Tide is described as an “unconventional love story” and is centred on a dysfunctional family living in the mid to late 20th century in South Africa.
It is a physically arresting and emotionally accessible story told through the memories of a child. A complex, yet humourous story of unrequited love. Womb Tide will be performed at the Loerie Hangar from 22 to 25 June.
