Fresh from winning the Best Instrumental Album of the Year award at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), Guy Buttery is returning to Grahamstown’s National Arts Festival.
Fresh from winning the Best Instrumental Album of the Year award at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), Guy Buttery is returning to Grahamstown’s National Arts Festival.
Buttery has performed at sold out concerts in previous Festivals and has been touring both nationally and internationally.
Buttery was introduced to music from a young age by his mother and older brothers while living in a small, coastal town near Durban.
His musical influences include the greats such as The Doors, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin and folk legend Bob Dylan.
The release of his first album in 2002 When I Grow Up… was followed by a nomination for Best Instrumental Album of the Year that same year and so becAme the youngest artist in history to be nominated at the SAMAs at the age of 18.
His second album Songs from the Cane Fields was nominated once again in 2005 in the same category as his previous album.
Buttery’s latest and third album Fox Hill Lane has been praised by American magazine, Guitar Player as “one of the most adventurous acoustic recordings in recent memory.”
Guy Buttery will be performing from 25 June to 4 July at PJ’S Basement and the Guy Butler Theatre in a special one-off show called 18 Strings.
