A new addition to the Festival experience this year is the village of Riebeek East as a tourist destination in the Eastern Cape.

In an effort to put Riebeek East on the map, a group of musicians have been organised to play at The Riebeek East session with performances taking place at the Mooimeisies Guest House on various afternoons and evenings throughout the festival.

The Riebeek East Session will include performances by Dave Goldblum, John Dickin, The Ha!Man, Anton Calitz and Dave Knowles.

Situated about 40km outside Grahamstown on the road to Bedford, festinos can choose to either attend the shows and then drive back to Grahamstown, or stay overnight at the excellent country guest house.

The small village’s claim to fame is being the erstwhile home of the famous Voortrekker leader, Piet Retief. The farmhouse in which he lived, Mooimeisiesfontein has been declared a national heritage site.

The village is surrounded by farms and the drive to Riebeek East takes you through a section of an open game farm where a lot of wildlife can be spotted.

A small coffee shop has also  been opened adjacent to the guest house which sells a lot of locally produced jams, preserves, biscuits, embroidery, needlework, knitted items, paintings, ceramics and succulents.
