Stream Sports Bar, the Escape Goats are experiencing a quick and exhilarating ascent to fame.
Glover, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the band remarked that it has been an amazing year and that their relatively quick success is diffi cult to comprehend.
“A lot of doors have been opened for us, we’ve been very lucky.” The Goats all agree that another local band, 10 Points For The Dismount, has had an integral role in the their success. According to Knoetze, they were vital in helping the Escape Goats in their big break.
“We’ve played with so many great bands, Desmond and the Tutus, The City Bowl Mizers and of course 10 Points For the Dismount,” he says.
The band is selffunded so a lot of money and time has been spent in making their music a success and there is much riding on the response to their fi rst album.
But they can probably relax on that front: at the Jiggered launch party they sold 20 copies of the album in quick succession and now have people clamouring for more.
Mayers remarks, “Now that we have a CD out, our music has become so much more accessible to everyone else.
People now have the chance to listen and like or dislike our music without having to see us perform.” The band did their recording through Sonic Art Studio by Corinne Cooper and Lunga Heleni and will be distributing their album during this year’s National Arts Festival.
The Escape Goats will be taking part in the Sound Kiln Music Festival, a three day event which brings together acoustic and tempo rock bands with some of South Africa’s leading DJ acts including Sibot, African Dope’s Mix ‘n Blend and Biorhythm.
The band will be performing on the fi rst day, 24 June, along with fi ve other bands. You can also catch them at Slip Stream Sports Bar on 26 June where they will be playing all six tracks on their album as well as a few others.
