Confusions as to which days the Cacadu PVA will be screening the games was raised by the SAPF so the Makana Municipality 2010 project co-ordinator, Jeff Budaza confirmed that of the 30 Fifa World Cup days, the PVA will screen 25 matches.
Furthermore, twelve of those days will feature entertainment from district artists. The PVA will be open today at 1pm and the programme will feature the national anthem sung by a local artist, followed by a keynote address by the Cacadu District Mayor or the Makana Executive.
Entertainment includes local group performances from DJs to diski dancers. Programmes for the other days will be drawn up as from Monday next week.
However, exactly who is to present the keynote address was not established as no invitations have been sent to Cacadu District Municipality yet.
According to the PVA World Cup schedule, South Africa will play against Mexico at 4pm, followed by Uruguay against France at 8.30.
The next game to be screened at the PVA will be between South Africa and Uruguay will be on Wednesday next week at 8.30pm. Marketing of the event was discussed involving a Radio Grahamstown interview which was planned to take place on Thursday evening.
Unsuccessful attempts to produce last minute “knock and drop” marketing leaflets and posters were mentioned and a Facebook page was also planned to be posted on Thursday evening.
Promotional material that is supposed to be handed out to the public has not been received yet. Councillor Mxolisi Ntshiba, who chaired the meeting, said that a marketing campaign would be focused on the wards that are in close proximity to the stadium.
He advised that this matter be handled so that “we can adequately distribute promotional material such as Tshirts to the respective wards that will benefit in this,” he said.
According to the police, the municipality has decided that no alcohol will be allowed in the PVA as it complies with the Fifa regulations for PVAs. A last minute meeting was scheduled at 10am this morning to finalise the last minute logistics.
