Today is another day in which Nelson Mandela will be honoured, this time for his dream of South Africa hosting the Fifa Soccer World Cup.

The pursuit of his dream has brought further hope and pride for the people of this nation. Nelson Mandela is indeed a man of humble beginnings, a good man, full of courage and who pursues his dreams and beliefs through to the end.

The pursuit of his dream has brought further hope and pride for the people of this nation. Nelson Mandela is indeed a man of humble beginnings, a good man, full of courage and who pursues his dreams and beliefs through to the end.

Today also sees the church honouring another man from humble beginnings, a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith who also pursued his beliefs through to the end.

St Barnabas or the “Son of Encouragement”, became a leading member of the early Christian community and
brought many people to faith in Jesus Christ.

Barnabas played out his own role in bringing people together in an attitude of hope, love, faith and forgiveness.

As Christians in South Africa we too need to play out our roles to bring people together to love and to forgive, to believe in the saving grace that Christ offers and to see the hope in the future of our nation. God Bless Africa.
