Nolan De Maar, a member of the Albany Karate Academy and a learner at Mary Waters Secondary School recently represented the Karate South Africa (KSA) Team at the ZoneSix Karate Championships in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Nolan won a silver medal in the Cadet Boys (14 and 15 years of age) under 70kg Individual  Kumite (fighting) category.

Other Southern African countries represented at the Championship included Zimbabwe and Botswana. This is Nolan’s second medal representing South Africa.

In 2008 he represented South Africa at the Commonwealth Karate Championships in Edinburgh where he won a silver medal in the Team Kumite (fighting) Category.

Just prior to his trip to Zimbabwe, Nolan was graded to junior black belt by Shihan Koos Burger (eighth Dan Black Belt), style-head for the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA).
