African Connections women’s football club drew one match and lost the other in the Absa Cacadu league play-offs.

In their first match, African Connections played to a 1-1 drew against Amatole champs, All Stars. All Stars scored in the second minute of the game, before African Connections equalised six minutes later.

African Connections team manager, Chris Totobela, said the side wasted many scoring opportunities. In their second and final game, African Connections met Nelson Mandela Metro champs, Liverpool, with African Connections losing the match 1-4.

In their first match, Liverpool beat All Stars 6-0 and so with the two wins they were promoted to the Sasol League.

This is African Connections’ second attempt at making the Sasol league, after winning the Absa Cacadu league in the inaugural year last year.

Totobela said the side was  missing a number of key players as well as their leading goal scorer in the Cacadu League.

However, Totobela said missing a number of key players was a blessing in disguise, as he fielded seven U19 girls who performed well during the two play-off matches.

A South African Football Association soccer scout was also at the play-offs and invited U19 African Connections player, Nosifundo Fabana to an U19 training camp.
