The South African Police Force (SAPF) Grahamstown branch kicked off a national fitness campaign
when members hit Rhodes University’s Great Field this week to get fit and lean.

The campaign is aimed at promoting healthy living among police officers. The campaign was initiated by South African Police Commissioner, General Bheki Cele.

While speaking to members at this week’s training, Brigadier Morgan Govender said that Cele has warned that members who do not meet the weight requirements within a certain time frame may be dismissed.

Over 70 members of the local police station gathered on Great Field on Wednesday where they were assessed in terms of blood pressure, body mass index and weight before walking around the field.

In conjunction with the campaign, members were taught the diski dance by Wendy Stamper of the  Amaphiko Township Dancers. Police members will be assessed twice a year.
