Grahamstown based women’s soccer club, African Connections will head off to Port Elizabeth this week as they attempt to win their right into the Sasol women’s league.
African Connections were once again crowned the Cacadu champions after being unbeaten at the South African Football Association Cacadu Absa women’s development league, which came to an end recently.
In their last match, African Connections beat Spandau 6-0 at JD Dlepu Stadium. As the log leaders of the Cacadu league, African Connections will take part in the play-off for the Sasol league, which is the premier women’s league in the Eastern Cape.
African Connections will face winners of the Amathola and Nelson Mandela district winners. The top finishing team in this stream will go through to the Sasol league.
The Absa league is made up of two streams, with the play-off winners in each stream heading up to the Sasol league. “The ultimate prize is promotion,” said team manager Chris Totobela who believes his team will go the whole way.
