The Raglan Road/Albert Street traffic lights were officially switched on by Makana Mayor, Vumile Lwana yesterday afternoon.

It was a case of second time lucky as the first attempt on 7 April failed due to a technical problem. The mayor, municipal manager, ward councillors, councillors, traffic officials and other invited guests and residents of Grahamstown attended the function.

After the lights were switched on, Makana traffic officers were on hand to educate motorists and pedestrians on understanding the lights.
The upgrading of Raglan Road and Albert Streets cost R5 858 250, which included the traffic lights, street lights, trees and paving, with funds allocated by the national treasury under the Neighbourhood Development  Partnership Grant.
