St Andrew’s and Graeme both enjoyed comfortable wins over the past weekend when they hosted Die  Brandwag Hoërskool and Cambridge respectively.

St Andrew’s and Graeme both enjoyed comfortable wins over the past weekend when they hosted Die  Brandwag Hoërskool and Cambridge respectively.

Both local sides will use these wins as a confidence  booster as they face each other in the FNB Classic Clash match which is this year hosted by St Andrew’s.

The match will be televised as part of the Dstv Classic Clash highlights package. The St Andrew’s and Brandwag 1st rugby sides match was a keenly contested affair, with St Andrew’s winning 32-17.

The St Andrew’s side was however able to maintain their composure and show glimpses of the form that they have had during the season.

St Andrew’s struggled to find their rhythm in the game as the opposition were committed at the breakdown, willing to give away a number of penalties and eventually a yellow card in their efforts.

The ferocity and numbers that they put into this contested area allowed for them to constantly disrupt the flow of the game and thus keep them in the game.

St Andrew’s did also play too much of the game in their own half and as such were not able to put the Brandwag side under enough pressure with their sweeping attacks.

In the first half St Andrew’s were able to get into the Brandwag 22 meter area on two occasions and scored tries each time.

St Andrew’s had some good fluidity early in the second half and were able to score two tries in the first fifteen minutes.

The rest of the half however was very stop start with both teams having niggling injuries due to the physicality of the game.

Brandwag showed great character and fought hard right until the final whistle and were rewarded for their efforts  with a try in the last movement of the game.

In a hard-fought encounter over the weekend, the Kingswood College 1st XV managed to edge out Muir College 22–11 in their inter schools match.

The game was characterised by hard hitting defence and a desire by both teams to play an expansive running pattern.

Despite controlling the initial phases of the game, Kingswood went behind 0-5 after Muir turned over possession and following some good handling scored in the corner.
