Two St Andrew’s College cricketers returned this week from SA U19 trials. Ryan Dugmore (17) and James Price (18) were both selected to attend the camp in Pretoria this past weekend and could find themselves representing the country in Zimbabwe in June.
Two St Andrew’s College cricketers returned this week from SA U19 trials. Ryan Dugmore (17) and James Price (18) were both selected to attend the camp in Pretoria this past weekend and could find themselves representing the country in Zimbabwe in June.
The pair, who are both all-rounders and have played together since Grade 1, represented the Eastern Province and have had a phenomenal year for St Andrew’s.
Team captain Dugmore has scored 545 runs at an average of 68 and taking 40 wickets at an average of one while Price has scored 899 runs at an average of 64 and has taken 29 wickets at an average of 14.
Price has attributed their success to simply enjoying the game. “The more we play, the more we enjoy the game, and the more we enjoy it, the better we get,” he said.
Dugmore, who also plays for the Junior Warriors team, feels that the school has also contributed to their development as players.
“St Andrew’s has a cricketing culture that breeds good routines and good structures.” Dugmore and Price’s coach Carl Bradfield explained that the two had come up the ranks together which went a long way in improving their skills and attitudes as players.
“They take it for granted because of their relationship but they spur each other on. They’ve also taken responsibility to improve as players by honing in on their skills,” the proud coach said.
Bradfield also praised the boys’ leadership and level of fitness. The Grade 12 pupils, who are both prefects, plan to take their cricket to a higher level after completing school.
