Amid the hustle and bustle of London’s theatrical heartland, Trinity Guildhall launched a major competition for playwrights from around the globe.
Designed to encourage writers to produce new material for young audiences, the details of this ambitious competitionwere unveiled on 31 March in London at The Vaudeville Theatre on The Strand.

Designed to encourage writers to produce new material for young audiences, the details of this ambitious competitionwere unveiled on 31 March in London at The Vaudeville Theatre on The Strand.
The competition will be promoted in the 60 countries worldwide in which Trinity Guildhall and Trinity College London have a presence.
Entrants will be asked to write a one-act play which will fit into one of two categories: either for audiences under 11 or for 12 to 16-year-olds.
Speaking at the launch, John Gardyne, Trinity College London’s chief examiner for Drama and Speech, said “What makes this competition unique is its international scope and the fact that every play submitted will be read by a team of expert readers and written feedback provided.”
The final shortlisted plays will also be read by a distinguished panel of judges which includes David Wood OBE who commented: “After forty years writing and directing plays for this undervalued sector, I am heartened to find a competition that recognises its vitality and importance.
I look forward to reading the entries and hope that the competition will encourage writers to take the plunge and discover how exciting writing for children can be.”

William Sun: playwright, director and vice-president Shanghai Theatre Academy (China); John Gardyne: chief examiner for Drama and Speech Subjects Trinity Guildhall (UK).
