Two vehicles were involved in an accident on the N2 bypass on Tuesday afternoon, leaving one passenger injured.

A BMW was travelling from Port Elizabeth when it was hit by a Ford Bantam bakkie that was travelling in the opposite direction on the way to King William’s Town.

According to an eyewitness, the bakkie had a burst tyre which resulted in the vehicle losing control. The skid marks were clearly visible on the road.

The bakkie crashed into the side of the BMW and came to a halt when it swung into a pole. A passenger sitting in the back of the bakkie was flung from the vehicle and was subsequently rushed to hospital.

An eyewitness said that before the injured man was transferred to the ambulance he saw a bone sticking out of his leg. According to Inspector Sherolene Williams a case of reckless and negligent driving was opened against the driver of the Ford.
