Grahamstown Brumbies may have lost 5-9 to Trying Stars in a friendly rugby encounter on Saturday, but Brumbies President Maasdorp Cannon said they are not too worried about the results as the match was a good learning curve for the side.
Cannon said the side was still a bit rusty and this was to be expected as they had tried out a number of new moves during the game, adding that some worked and some did not.
The match was played at the Albany Sports Club, the current home of Brumbies, as The Oval is currently being renovated by Makana Municipality who have said the field will be ready in April.
The Brumbies 2nds and 1st reserves both won their matches against their Trying Stars opponents. Cannon said they are hoping to be back at the Oval in April at the start of the league matches, as this is where their supporters are based.
While there was a large crowd supporting the team at the Albany Sports Field, Cannon believes a larger crowd will be drawn once the side is back at The Oval.
Brumbies will play another friendly this weekend, when they face another Grahamstown side, Winter Rose. The matches, starting from 1pm, will be played at the Albany Sports Field, with the 1sts will be playing at 3.30pm.
