Team Tip Top were crowned the 2010 Pepper Grove Pick n Pay Inter Company Night Bowls league champions when they beat team Fizix in the final event on Friday.

Two games were played, one vying for the trophy and the other for the plate. The night bowls started towards the end of January with four teams in various sections.

After the round robin phase, the section winners then played towards the  trophy while the section runners up met in the plate events.

While Tip Top went on to win the main trophy event, Taps Incl won the plate event after beating On Bended Knee in the plate final.

Tip Top’s run-up to the final, during the knock out stages, saw them beating D&A Timbers 20-5, before beating Little Devils 23-11 in the quarter finals and then dashed the hopes of one of the two Makana Brick side to make the semis by beating them 25-4.

The final of Friday evening was another high score for the Tip Top side as they beat their scientist opponents by 31-12 for an easy final win.

The winning Tip Top side was made up of Quentin, John and Bresby du Preez and Malcolm Grant, while the Fizix side was made up of Dennis Stuurman, Allan Poole, Dawie Barnard and Tim Radloff.

The winning plate section side, Taps Inc, was a husband and wife team made up of Mike Davies and his wife Kate, and Mike’s brother Richard and his wife Dot.

The plate final was a much closer game, with Taps Inc winning by 15 points to 13. The On Bended Knee side was made up of Hilton Adonis, Alde Meyer, Mark Bennet and Virginia Bennet.

Dozens of bottles of red and white wine were handed out at the prizegiving ceremony after the finals on Friday, with the section runners up receiving a bottle of wine for each player, while the section winners received two bottles for each team member.

The overall winners and runners up received wine and cash prizes. Mike Howis of the sponsors Pick n Pay, committed to sponsoring the event in 2011.
