The plate final will see Taps Inc come up against On Bended Knee. This is not the first time team Tip Top have made the final, although this year’s team is made up of different members.
Makana Brick originally entered three teams in the night bowls event, with the A team pulling out in the early stages of the event.
The Makana Brick B and C teams went on to both make the semi-finals of the main event and would have hoped to go one step further than last year, when the Makana Brick A side lost to Grahamstown Electrical in the main final event.
However, it was not to be as both the Makana Brick sides lost the semi-final matches. The night bowls started on 25 January with 64 teams taking to the greens over the next five weeks in the various group round robin matches.
The top two teams then went through to the second round, with the top sides in each group playing for the main even and the group runners up met in the plate event.
Last year’s plate final was won by First City, after they beat Road Sultans in the plate final. In Wednesday’s semifinals, Tip Top beat Makana Brick B by 26 points to 4 to advance to the final, while Fizix also booked their place in the final after beating Makana Brick C by 21-9.
In the plate event, Taps Inc beat Strikers 26-3 and On Bended Knee beat Pheasant Pluckers 19-18. This week’s ain event matches saw Tip Top beat Little Devils 23-11, Makana Brick B beat Bright Sparks 21- 12, Makana Brick C beat SAPS A 16-8 and Fizix beat Padbouers 12-9.
In the plate event, Strikers beat R&S Plumbing 15-13, Taps Inc beat Carara 22-5, On Bended Knee beat A N White 13-9 and Pheasant Pluckers beat Leopards 22-12. Tonight’s finals are scheduled to start at 6pm and will be followed by a prizegiving ceremony at around 9pm.
