Posters promoting Rhodes University’s Anti-alcohol Abuse Week have sparked controversy as the woman student who appears in the poster was unhappy that her picture was used without permission.

President of the Student Representative Council Eric Ofei said: “The matter became a legal issue when the student called prosecutors because she was unhappy that Rhodes did not ask her for permission
to use a photograph of her on the poster."

Dean of Students Prof Vivian de Klerk says she cannot comment on the matter. Meanwhile, the posters have been taken down on and Ofei says that the woman is not taking any further action.
